James Burton - Wild Man of the Telecaster!

This site rates a 10+++++ on the cool meter -- James Burton - Wild Man of the Telecaster!

Burton's one of the greatest lead guitar players ever -- you probably first saw him on the "Ozzie and Harriet" show playing with Rickie Nelson -- and he's played with most every great ever since then!

I still drop everything everytime PBS replays that incredible black-and-white Roy Orbison super show (with Elvis Costello, James Burton, Bruce Springsteen, k.d. lang, Bonnie Rait and loads more).

Burton's probably best known for his lead guitar work with Elvis Presley (beginning with the Las Vegas days) -- also noted for his Fender Telecasters -- especially that Pink Paisley one!

The site's really well done, great pictures, great information -- and also offers free guitar tabs for some of your favorite Burton lick's and solo's!

If you're in the Milton-Keynes area (about halfway between London and Leicester), you might enjoy this particular site --
http://mksessions.blogspot.com/.

It's geared towards performing (but not professional) musicians looking for places that offer live-mike, acoustic open sessions. Mainly folk and Celtic music.

In addition to talking about performing opportunities, the site also offers standard notation sheet music and midi files for loads of folk and session tunes. Well worth a look-see!

Musician's Job Board!

Well here's a nice resource -- and particularly appropriate given the current economic climate!

musicalchairs is a "job" board for professional musicians. Orchestra managers can post openings; musicians can search positions. Visited by 10,000 folks daily!

Here's what they say about themselves:

"MISSION STATEMENT

musicalchairs aims to provide a cost-effective means for orchestras, opera companies and conservatoires to advertise vacancies worldwide. Although musicalchairs is widely read worldwide, we respect and value national job markets. We understand how crucial it is for classical music managers to reach the best possible list of applicants so that top class appointments can be made. We recognize our responsibility to make the listings as clear as possible "

Be sure and bookmark this useful resource -- you'll find them at http://www.musicalchairs.info/
